KING HAAKON ENTERS HIS CAPITAL.

SPLENDID WELCOME BY THE PEOPLE.

THEIR MAJESTIES’ GRACEFUL ACTS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

CHRISITIANIA, Sunday, Nov. 26

The state entry of King Haakon and Queen Maud into their capital yesterday was an enormously popular ceremony. In spite of fog and snow the streets were everywhere crowded.

Their Majesties transferred from the Danish to the Norwegian royal yacht, on board which they met the members of the Norwegian Government at Dröbak. The Heimdal, with the King and Queen on board, then proceeded through dense fog and blinding snow to Christiania, arriving there half an hour after noon.

As the King and Queen stepped ashore the fortress and all the warships fired a royal salute of twenty-one guns. The Queen, a little pale from the fatigue of the voyage, looked most distinguished, and both monarchs were much affected by the warmth of the welcome. Queen Maud wore a cloak of brown fur and a violet hat with white plumes.

The little Crown Prince Olaf was seen by a gentleman near by to have no Norwegian flag. He asked a little boy near him to present his flag to the Prince. The royal baby seized it with eager delight.

During the illuminations in the evening the King’s little dog was found in the streets by a little boy, who took it to the palace. Both King and Queen came downstairs and personally thanked him.

On Tuesday the new rulers will visit the British battleship Caesar.

The apartments of the Royal Family are situated in the sunny southern wing of the royal palace. The Crown Prince Olaf has three rooms decorated in light colours. In his sitting-room is seen a great Polar bear fur presented to him by the school children in Christiania.

Almost adjacent to this room are the Queen’s dressing-room, in cherry-coloured silk brocade, and the royal bedroom. The windows are adorned with openwork light blue silk curtains made in Norway. There is a large gilt bed, covered with silken blankets. The royal apartments number in all nineteen rooms.
